I was so excited to deliver a stunning Kiranphotography album to Mindee and Davy recently, we had dinner together and just got to view their final album and relive some of their special day. They admitted that after their wedding life had gotten so hectic, so quickly, that they hadn't even thought back on it in the months since, and it was a great way to relive, revisit, and savour those precious feelings. A 50th birthday party, a senior year in high school, a wedding day, all go by so quickly; and that's why it's so important to invest in a professional photographer to capture those feelings and experiences. That is the power of printed photography, it's capable of transporting us back to re-feel those moments that mean the most to us as everyday life marches on.
In an era where so many photographers just shoot a barrage of pictures, it's great to be able to create meaningful, tangible artwork for my clients such as these signature Albums. They're perfect for a portrait session or special event, and after the food's been eaten, the music played, and the guests have all gone home, you'll have these moments of your life to re-live, and I'm blessed to be a part of telling that story.

My father's house in Goa. 1998
Well, I did my best to remedy that this time around, and hopefully my father and brother were with my in spirit.
It was especially meaningful to be in my father's house on father's day.
The Victoria Train Station in Mumbai.
Flora fountain, great shopping around here in the area called Colaba.
This was some guerilla style photography. These guys were out doing tourist pictures, and turning around prints on the spot with printers in their satchels! That's some hustle...
Didn't have long in Mumbai before I headed to New Delhi for the first leg of the trip. I saw some of the sights including Qutub Minar. But my favorite was shopping in the market near Janpath. Qutub minar (pictured below) in case you didn't know is allegedly the tallest monolithic brick structure in the world.
Next on the agenda was Humayun's Tomb, an islamic tomb close second in grandeur to the Taj Mahal.
Then to the India Gate.
Those with no fear of hepatitis can get a tattoo from some shady looking dudes in the park.
The Indian houses of parliament were next for a quick drive by sight.
The next day I made the drive to Agra (about 4 hours by car.
And we made it just in time to drive by the red fort and catch the Taj Mahal at sunset. Though we had to run to get a ticket in time.
The next morning, I was up at the crack of dawn to catch sunrise at the Taj Mahal.
In case you've ever wondered what it looks like behind the Taj Mahal.
My classic travel picture tradition:
The view from my hotel window.
Then it was time for the 2nd leg of the trip, Varanasi. This place was crazy hot, so I didn't venture out as much as I would have liked, but I did get to see the ghats along the river ganges, witness a funeral, and the customary bathing.
Then, for the final leg of the country tour, I went to my father's place of birth, Goa. Now, some people wonder why my last name ends in an s and not a z, well the short answer is that Goa is a Portuguese colony, so the influence is very visible there.
Goa has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years, and sadly not much for the beter. Tucked behind this mediocre restaurant is my father's family house.
A wedding portrait of my paternal grand parents.
My Aunt, Meena.
A prophetic kodak shop.
My Aunt's husband Mohan.
All beaches pretty much look the same to me. But here's Calangute beach in Goa. Usually warm waters, but this was during the monsoon season, so it was a bit unseasonable.
My cousin's husband Allan took me to see Cliffs near Fort Aguada in Goa, a great landscape photo spot.
The best place I found for eating in Goa.
This is the view from my father's flat.
Checked out the famous fashion street shopping spot.
St. Mary's school where my father taught Science in his 20's and 30's.
Shopping in markets is always my favourite travel activity, and Crawford market was the best.
My cousin in her school attire.
Classic Byculla moment here:
My beloved family in India. Charmain, Anaia, and Allan.
Didn't take long after landing to start seeing the incredible beauty in New Hampshire as I prepared to head north.
One of my first stops was the Tilt'n Diner. I love the Americana vibe of the north east and little coffee shop diners like this! Great food too!
The Great Quechee Gorge
I was up beore the sun to capture images at Killington Falls
In Montpelier, I was blessed to stay at Betsy's B&B a recommendation from my friend Lindsay. It did not disappoint, exactly the vibe, ambiance, and feel I was looking for. A quaint, traditional b&B with good food and a vintage feel.
One of the greatest things about traveling is the people you meet. I came across these nice folks in the field where I was shooting the astral photography above, then randomly happened upon them again the next day in front of the state Capital!
Some delicious craftings to be had at Cold Hollow Cider Mill, including the ever elusive rose-flavoured jam.
Smugglers notch in October is probably one of, if not my favorite place in the world. Beautifully gloomy, overcast, and cold. Perfect hot cider weather.
Got to stop in to Henry's Diner in Burlington on my next to last day! Awesome experience and food!
Well, after 6 days and about 10 pounds of maple syrup, it was time to head home. I'll be returning as soon as possible!
I worked with the family to create a beautiful KP Signature Album featuring the images from the event and telling the story of this moment in the life of the family.

Jake and his mom Gisele joined me in Downtown Dallas for a chill senior portrait session in the Deep Ellum district a week ago, I'm really excited to share the images from his session and cheer him on as he pursues his studies at Baylor in Computer Engineering.
We even got a cameo from a roving visitor during our session!
I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful young lady to create headshots for her acting resume as she prepares to apply to colleges in the coming year! Gabbie is a wonderful singer and very active in the worship ministry at our church Preston Trail in Frisco. I really enjoyed her spunkiness and energy.
I was blessed to return again this year to do an artist photoshoot for the BHmusic Studios Summer Camp in McKinney and cover the showcase performance in Frisco at the Pub.

]]>Ashley and I go way back to the early club days at NTPC, and it was such an honor when she asked me to create bridal portraits for her. Ashley said she wanted something "different" for her portraits, and so the challenge was set to create blue hour and night-time bridal images. Of course, Ashley, a professional model turned AirForce mechanic and crew chief, was drop dead stunning in her dress, and we created some beautiful, dramatic, and "different" images.

Definitely one of the more unique spots I've photographed a family in, when Elizabeth and I were planning the session, she said, I'd love to do it in a hardware store, that's my dad's happy place. And sure enough, I got in touch with the fine folks at ACE Hardware in McKinney and they let us come in and do our session there!
I knew Elizabeth from my wonderful church, but it was the first time meeting her parents who were in town from Florida. I loved Charlotte (Mom's) sense of humour and Dave (Dad's) quiet easy going nature. They were a blast to work with: Charlotte and I commiserated over the woes of the public school teacher.
Normally I'd be kind of stressed out by random people walking around in my background or dogs wandering through the shot, but in tihs case I kinda felt like it was perfect!
Definitely a daddy's girl.
A coffee break in the middle of our session? Why not!?
Was blessed to spend a perfect Autumn Sunday morning with the family of one of my best friends. Grandma Shelley and Grandpa, Kevin; Mom, Summer and Dad John - their kids, Nathan, Nattie, & Nicholas; Mom, Brittney and her little one, Dylan.
I mean, you can just tell how loving and tender this family is.
Meet Josh, this dude is a senior at Liberty High School getting ready to go to Texas A&M. He can wail on the guitar and help you build a screaming fast workstation for photo editing so your bulky windows 7 system that freezes every half hour can finally be retired- what a great guy!
Even got to sneak in a shot with this old man. Good times!
Work by Kiran Fernandes, a McKinney-based photographer, has been selected to be featured in Frisco City Hall. The Photo titled “Bhenat” (Offering) has been selected to grace the main entryway to City Hall and the Public Library for the coming year.
"The picture represents the rich tapestry of diversity that is characteristic of one of the fastest growing cities in the Nation," said Fernandes.
The photographic print on fine art canvas was described by the Arts board as "Visually exciting and inspiring.”
The image was created in March 2013 at a housewarming ceremony for the wedding of an Indian family in Plano, TX.
Fernandes, who owns KiranPhotography, specializes in weddings, portraits and special events.
This past year Fernandes retired from a full time position teaching at a public middle school to pursue a new career path as a full time photographer.
"I feel very blessed to have been given the opportunity to pursue what I feel truly called to do,” he said. “It has given me a renewed sense of purpose and I feel great to be able to express myself through my art.”
The work is sponsored by the Frisco Public Art Program, and will be on display at the George Purefoy Municipal Complex from November 2013 to August 2014.

Perfect weather on a most beatific Fall day for Allison & Ron's Wedding in McKinney. I met Allison through Gabi who is a former student of mine, and was blessed to be able to capture her big day. She fancied herself a bridezilla - hah! Far from it, Allison & Ron are two of the most gracious and sweet people I've met.

]]>And I bet it never occurred to most of the people in His proximity that if they just touched Him, they would be healed, if they just knew Him, their very lives would be transformed for the better. They never grasped the magnitude of what they were in the midst of - the magnitude of what he was destined to do on the cross. That billions people for the rest of the freakin' HISTORY of the earth would yearn for the ability to have what was within 2 yards of their grasp. To be able to look into the face, the eyes of God... the creator of everything.
Then I realized, it's not so different now, sure we can't physically touch God, but He's closer now on this side of the cross than he was then. To hear Him these days, you most likely have to hear His worlds through fully human intermediaries rather than direct from the source, but it's no more difficult to listen to Him.
Tangential thought: Or CAN'T we physically touch God? All good and perfect things come from Him, so when a couple shares their first kiss as husband and wife, when a newborn cries out for the first time, when it snows and school gets cancelled, are those not all manifestations of God? Is God not omnipresent in them all? All we have to do is ask and accept Christ's presence in our lives, and it's as if we're the beggar who decides that in fact, yes he IS tired of being lame, and gets up and walks, even dances in the light of new life.
But wouldn't people have reacted differently to Christ walking down the street if they'd have known he was God - and that following his way no matter the cost would ensure you're set for Eternity? What lengths would they have gone to, to be in His presence? What excuse would have been good enough to justify NOT reaching out for Him? What would have been MORE of a priority? How many would have eagerly jumped in to carry that cross even two steps? What lengths do we fail to go to in our own lives because we don't realize the magnitude of God and his presence in our lives?
But yeah, we as humans haven't changed that much. We often don't realize the magnitude of the God who is in our very midst. Instead of getting up from our fishing nets, and getting in earshot of Christ, we sit at our coffee shops, behind our computers, at our various diversions - and we miss the opportunity. Sometimes however, we forget to recognize God in the mundane, in the fact that He is within us and all around us. I mean I guess maybe we have a tendency to be unaware of the magnitude of God- or more likely I'm sure there's an extent to which we're by nature incapable of grasping that - but you can't have read this far in my blog post and be unaware anymore- so where do you go from here?
I sure hope you know God, because He's pretty awesome, and He knows you. He's no less alive now than 3000 years ago, and He's within reach.

Pragnesh Shah, realtor for Keller Williams celebrated his 50th birthday at the Tribute last week, and we were there to capture all the excitement!

We started out in studio for a few:
Then we headed outside to enjoy the wonderful approaching Autumn weather.
I then got to travel to Uganda to be a part of my church's mission team and help people find and follow Jesus Christ.
Upon returning, I decided to make a major life change, which I'll discuss in a future post, and mentally, spiritually, emotionally, it put me in a completely different realm of happy.
I think in large part this summer rocked so hard out of comparison. It's kind of strikingly astounding where my life is in relation to where it was a year ago during what was probably the worst summer of my life.
Heck I even got to ride in a hot air balloon!
The last week of the season I got to see Mumford and Sons in Concert with my buddy Josh, and now I have sweater weather, hot chocolate, and fireplace to look forward to... my favorite time of year!
Life is good. God is good. Kiranphotography is good.
]]>
Then a couple months ago in a conversation with my friend Brittney, she said one of her "life goals" was to go up in a hot air balloon ride. Well, I knew I had to make that happen. With great luck, Loren messaged me and said they had a flight open on Sunday. As lucky also had it, it was Brittney's birthday weekend!
Well, it was an early morning getting up at 5:30 to pick her up at 6:15 to be on site at 6:30. My excuse to get her there for the big surprise was that we were going to do a sunrise photoshoot, not entirely false, I just left out the fact that it'd be at 3000 feet of altitude.
Everything went off with a hitch; her face when she found out was priceless - I think she was in shock.
We arrived to an empty field in McKinney and got to setting up!
Entire Air balloon fits in this little bag.
Perfect 72 degrees with no wind for our lift off.
Had to make the portrait session happen:
And away we went!
Two other pilots flew alongside us.
Upon landing, we were treated to snacks and mimosas by Loren & Luc to celebrate a great flight! They were so kind and took such great care of us!
So happy to have been blessed to bless my friend!

It stops you in whatever track of life you're in, spins you around a bit, and resets your perspective. From the ubiquitous red dirt, to the abyssal, high-contrast, searching eyes of the African people, to the delicious meat on a stick from a roadside grill, everthing about it for the first time traveler takes you out of what you know.
I was blessed to be a part of a mission team from Preston Trail Community Church in mid June to journey to Uganda in Africa to serve in several ministries. For the first part of the 11 days, we served in Children's ministries one titled Homecoming Foodstep serving the children of Kampiringisa (a children's remand center) and another visiting Serving His Children, a ministry founded by an American Renee Bach, which helps malnourished children back to health and educates their families about proper nutrition. This was my first time visiting, and I was graciously blessed by my church, the Bingham family, Mark & Sharon Fowler, Michelle Kiehn, My God-mother and Grand Uncle, Pat & Deb Crane, Phil Crane, Jeff & Jody Crane, Eileen Ebert-Aguilar, my teaching friends: Lannis Nelson, The McFarland family, and my beloved friends Meredith Douglas, Brittney Caswell, Mary Duran, Lauren Liles, Gwen Guess, and many others in prayer and support with the ability to follow God's lead on this.
This is my favorite image from the trip:
The simple joy as a little one plays with a paper airplane on a sunny day at HomeComing in Uganda June 2013.
This is my second favorite image:
Pastor John, attendee at the Hessed pastor's conference.
Coming back from Africa is difficult to do without questioning the mass of posessions one returns to and feeling the weight of the superfluity. Nevertheless, it was a huge blessing to see the fruits of the church's continued ministry there, to see smiles on the faces of the children at the homecoming, shoes on their feet, and toys in their hands.
At homecoming, I met a young man who sat with me and recounted from memory the stories of Genesis through Exodus. I spent close to 2 hours sitting with him and listening to him; it was a really special moment and I won't forget him as long as I live.
I also met a young pastor named John who works with the children at Homecoming.
He contacted me via email after I returned and told me that he and his wife have been praying for me; for my life and for my new business adventure. He told me that he saw in me the spirit of Gideon which meant that he saw me as a mighty man of valor who, despite small beginnings, has a path to greatness ahead of me. I hope that my images of Africa can serve as a small stepping stone on that path and bring glory to Him who both made it possible for me to go and created all the blessings I encountered.

OH my how I would die to do a bridal session in this mansion!
My favorite room: A great chair for reading some Yeats and watching the wind blow the trees.
Of course, God is everywhere, but if you want to get away from the World to reconnect with Him, this is a great place to do it.
Early morning perambulations:
I was blessed to get a personal tour of the chapel of the little children from Father Francis Kelly.
Worth getting up super early to catch the sunrise at the coast a few miles down the road? I think so!

And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall
search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

I finally asked you to dance
On the last slow song
Beneath that moon that was really a disco ball
I can still feel my head on your shoulder
And hoping that song would never be over
I brushed your curls back so I could see your eyes
And the way you moved me was like you were reading my mind
I can still feel you lean into kiss me
I can't help but wonder if you ever miss me
The pouter, the smiler, and the thinker:
Got to spend a beautiful, cool, and crisp Saturday morning with the Wood family who also qualify for the same adjectives!

Uganda Compassion Team /June 2013 Preston Trail Community Church 10501 Main Street, Frisco, TX 75035
Dear Family and Friends; I am beyond excited to tell you that I will be joining a team from my church, Preston Trail Community Church, to Uganda in East Africa for a short term mission trip. Our team will depart Dallas on June 17th, returning home on June 28, 2013, and in one capacity I will be using my gifts as a photographer to tell the stories of 1. the trip, 2. the people we meet in Uganda, and 3. the amazing love of God and the transforming power of Christ. I will also be helping to teach at a ministry conference on the topic of spiritual gifts. As you may know, I have traveled to developing nations before, specifically India, but I have never done anything like this before, so I am eager to see how Christ transforms and shapes my life through this experience, and I look forward to sharing the experience with you through my art and story. During our first week, we will work with our partners from Food Step / Homecoming ministries, both run by an amazing Belgian couple (Nathalie & Werner) who live in Uganda fulltime. The Food Step ministry works with children living in a state-run rehabilitation center for youth near Kampiringisa, just outside Kampala the capital of Uganda. Most of the children in this center are picked up off the streets because their parents either abandoned them or sent them out to beg for money. The Homecoming is a relatively new ministry they launched to offer some of these children with little to no hope of getting out of the state run facility before turning 18, a home where they will receive a warm bed, three meals per day, healthcare, an education, and most importantly love and spiritual guidance from Nathalie & Werner. Currently, they have custody of 50+ children with hopes of adding 40-50 more this year. The following week we will be working with another one our partners, Hesed International to train area pastors, their wives and lay leaders within their churches equipping them to better lead their churches. While our team will make the actual journey, we do need help and there are a couple of ways you can get involved to support our mission. As we prepare and while we are gone, would you consider praying for us and for those we will meet? You can also follow us on Facebook on the Uganda Ministry at Preston Trail page. Each team member is required to raise financial support to cover airfare, meals, and accommodations. In order to make this trip possible I will need to raise an additional $3,200. Would you prayerfully consider providing financial support to our team? If you feel led to involved in supporting me financially, please make your check payable to Preston Trail Community Church and mail it to the address above. Please reference “Uganda” in the memo section of your check. All donations are tax deductible, and a receipt will be provided. You can also easily contribute online at http://tinyurl.com/chgegk8 This link will have you create an account with a secure user name and password, also allowing them to mail you a tax credit receipt. Thank you in advance for your consideration, and soon I look forward to sharing how God will change the lives of everyone involved with this trip, both here and there! Blessed to bless, Kiran Fernandes ![]() |

You were never lovelier,
You were never so fair,
Dreams were never lovelier,
Pardon me if I stare.
Down the sky the moonbeams fly to light your face;
I can only say they chose the proper place.
You were never lovelier,
And to coin a new phrase;
I was never luckier in my palmiest days.
Make a note, and you can quote me,
Honor bright,
You were never lovelier than you are tonight.

Although you see the world different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon the wonders that you see
All the new colors and pictures you've designed
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
You don't need direction, you know which way to go
And I don't want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow
You're the one who taught me you don't have to look behind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Nobody's gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to live your life
There'll always be people to make it hard for a while
But you'll change their heads when they see you smile
The times you were born in may not have been the best
But you can make the times to come better than the rest
I know you will be honest if you can't always be kind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine,
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Some friends asked me, "How can you enjoy a wedding when you're running around taking pictures?" And honestly, the answer is just. like. this.
Doing what I truly love to do is the way I most enjoy a lot of life experiences. Sitting in a chair thinking, "ooh, I could get an awesome shot of...", or "I wonder how this angle would look like through the 85mm..." or "that'd be a great shot if only I could...", that sort of time spent would irk me. So we added to our wedding gift to the Potts by sharing what we love to do and providing a little bonus to the images from the photographer that they hired.
